Back in 2018, I was in Las Vegas on a work trip for 10 days and really got to know the surrounding area. When most people hear that I was in Las Vegas, they immediately think of the Strip, when in reality I was only on the Strip twice in 10 days. So, if you are looking for a travel guide that focuses on all things OUTSIDE of the Strip, then this guide is for you!
Where to eat
Sake Rok – This tasty sushi spot is located right next to New York, New York on the Strip and perfectly combines club music and delicious sushi rolls. The waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the food and beverage offerings.
Pro tip: Let the waiter know if you want your sushi gluten-free and he will suggest rolls that best suit your needs.
SkinnyFATS – I had one of the best black bean burgers in my life at this healthy, fast food restaurant. We stopped here for a quick bite on our way to Red Rock Canyon and it was the perfect amount of food needed to keep us energized for the hike.
Pro tip: Ask for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun to make it gluten and grain-free.
Lyfe Kitchen – This is one of my fave chain restaurants that is also in the Bay Area. So, when I found this gem near my AirBnB, I knew I had to go here for a quick lunch before heading to Crossfit Max Effort to get in a sweat sesh.
Pro tip: Get the vegetable flatbread. It isn’t often (seriously, it is very rare!) that I find a flatbread menu item that is originally made gluten-free, so I jumped at the chance and it was absolutely delicious!
Bardot Brasserie – This Michael Mina restaurant located in the Aria Hotel is a bit pricey, but TOTALLY worth it for a nice, French dinner on the Strip. My team and I went here for a celebratory dinner to toast to the end of our project in Vegas and had a wonderful dining experience.
Pro tip: The scallops dish made my taste buds dance with joy- I can’t recommend it enough! However, everyone at the table raved about their food too, so I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of the dishes.
Where to exercise
Crossfit Max Effort – This is one of the most frequently visited Crossfit affiliates in the US. From first glance, it is one of the largest gyms I have been into and very well laid out. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable about the workouts and are happy to accommodate for all fitness levels. I recommend checking this out if you are an avid Crossfitter and in the Vegas area.
Red Rock Canyon – My team and I needed an afternoon away from our computer screens and took advantage of the perfect Nevada spring weather. We explored the 2.5 mile Calico Tanks trail of the National Preservation Area and got to see multi-colored sandstone with a perfect view of Las Vegas as a bonus. If you want to explore more than casinos and pool parties, then this area is a can’t-miss part of the area.
